Suvarna came to us from a private owner in Georgia. When the owner decided to relinquish ownership of his wild animals, Crown Ridge, IFAW, and Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge stepped in to help find homes for these animals. Tiger Creek transported Suvarna to his forever home at Crown Ridge and transported a cougar to their sanctuary.
Although a little hesitant at first, Suvarna adjusted well to his new home, with the help of some chicken treats.
Suvarna enjoyed playing with barrels, relaxing in his pool, or gazing out over the sanctuary on the highest platform. He was always eager to check out his enrichment items and play with them often throughout the day. His favorite item seemed to be anything he could bat around with his giant paws.
Sadly on October 3, 2017 Suvarna passed away from complications with an infection in his rear leg. Throughout his life Suvarna had many health issues especially with his hind end. When he began to seem disinterested in eating we knew something was wrong. We contacted our vet and scheduled an emergency immobilization. Unfortunately Suvarna did not make it through the procedure. His infection had spread and despite our best efforts Suvarna passed away. Suvarna was close to all of our hearts, he was a big, laid back kind of guy who always went with the flow and definitely never missed a meal! He was an impressive cat that unfortunately had to be rescued from a bad situation. We hope that one day there will be no need for sanctuaries like us, but until then, with your support, we will continue to give animals like Suvarna a voice!
Gorgeous, the water tub doesn’t give them room to swim, anything planned in the future for bigger swim holes?
The one in the video is one of our smaller pools. We are slowly replacing the smaller pools with larger ones in each of the enclosures. We are also working on a plan to construct new, bigger enclosures that would also have larger water features. Thank you for your support!
